Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear for
the class?
You need to wear form-fitting clothes, like a comfortable, knit top
and slacks/shorts or workout clothes or leotard and tights. WHY? You
need to see your muscles work and so does your teacher. You also
have to see your body so you can master the dance isolations.
The next most important item you will need is a hip sash or scarf.
This helps you isolate your hips from your waist and torso.
Foot wear. You can dance barefooted. We recommend you to
bring a pair of socks for your feet to help you execute turns and
pivots. Bare feet perspire and tend to stick to the floor.
You can purchase all needed clothes for the class at our store.
Do I have parking?
You have free parking on Pickford street (it's a crossing street to
La Cienega Blvd). There is street cleaning on Monday between 8 am
and 11 am and Wednesday between 8 am and 11 am.
If I feel out of shape, can I still come to class?
Of course! For most people (even if you are "out of shape"),
Bellydance provides a moderate workout that is very beneficial to
the health no matter what size you are. All size and shapes are
welcome!
I need to lose weight. Will bellydance classes help me?
Belly Dance is excellent exercise. Dancing is a good cardio-vascular
work out and helps increase flexibility. It is suitable for all ages
and body types and can be as physical as the dancer chooses to make
it. Combined with a healthy diet that involves sensible eating, raks
sharki can without a doubt be part of a sound weight loss program.
