Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition Sign Up
L.A. Bellydance Academy dancers unite to bring to life an exciting group fusion choreography at the 2018 Bellydancer of the Universe Competition this February. Rehearsals begin Saturday and will include 10 weeks with a mandatory attendance policy. Registration deadline is November 10, after which the rehearsal class at 2:00 will be closed to the public. Join your dance sisters in this great opportunity to grow and perform!
Our Folkloric Choreography classes will be at 10 am every Saturday as well as noon on Thursdays. Come get an energetic start to your weekend while learning a variety of traditional dances from Arabic and Middle Eastern regions. Most importantly, your participation in this class gives you the opportunity to perform in LABA public shows!

Estelle El Zaghloul
The Phoenician Princess
Estelle was born in the North of Lebanon, land of Cedars. She moved to Costa Rica with her family, who are all artists, and with them she began an incredible career in Dances and Arab Arts from the age of 16.
Estelle’s accomplishments include:
-Pianist, percussionist, choreographer, music composer, producer, director and Teacher of Oriental Dance, percussion, and the Arabic language mother tongue as well as Spanish, English and French.
-Producer of musical and other major events with more than 50 successful shows from 2000 to 2017.
-Director of shows of various styles in addition to oriental dance, such as flamenco, and Indian dance.
-Recognized Choreographer at the National and International level.
-2007 winner of the World Bellydancers Competition called “Hezzi ya nawaeem, World Bellydance Championship”, held in Beirut, Lebanon with renowned figures of oriental dance such as Najwa Fouad, Zaza Hassan, and Amelia Zidane, and under the production of the outstanding artist Mr. Simon Asmar.
– Founder, Director and teacher of the “Amar Lebanese Cultural Center”, first of its kind in Middle Eastern arts in Central America.
– Creator of the International Festival of Arab Arts, with seven editions and more than a thousand dancers on stage.
– Founder of the musical group Sahra, the first Oriental dance and music group to perform at the National Theater of Costa Rica.
– Creator of the BellyDance Teacher Training program, Personal Performance Training, Tribal Back to Basics, and the unique four-year program of Oriental Arts.
– Founder, choreographer, and dancer of the companies Co-Amar, Troupe Amar, and the Ballet of Lebanese Folk Dances “Dabket el Arez”.
-Director, composer, teacher and musician of the Sadaf percussion group.
-First belly dancer to perform at the National Theater of Costa Rica and Nicaragua with outstanding productions.
– Official Cultural promoter of the Costa Rican Lebanese House.
-Teacher of international workshops in Canada, Lebanon, Egypt, all over Central America, and other countries.
– Collaboration with the excellent percussionist Issam Houshan.
– She is an active member of the St. Charbel Foundation which supports people in need as well as those who have suffered from wars in the Middle East.
-Icon of women’s empowerment in Costa Rica.
-Promoter of the Middle East culture in Central America.
